Upcoming Dates / Reminders:
- Lochside's 50+ anniversary celebration is this week on June 1st. Thank you for those who have brought in items for the Antique Roadshow. We have enjoyed looking at each item and noticing what life might have been like 50ish years ago. There is still time if you wanted to bring in an item before Wednesday. On Wednesday we are having a school assembly at 12:15pm to celebrate Lochside's birthday. We will also be having cake at 1:30pm. Parents are invited to come to our Open House from 2:00-3:30pm. Our class will have art and writing up on our bulletin boards about the future. Our antique roadshow items will be in the sunspace and will go home on Thursday. And our robots are in the library. P.s. A HUGE thank you for the robot-building on Friday. It was a great success and a highlight of our week. Many adults at Lochside have complimented the robots. We couldn't have done it without you all and the donations, so thanks again!
- This week we are listening to music from the 60s and have an opportunity to have a Sock Hop on Thursday at lunch. Students are welcome to come dressed up in 60s attire. Today we listened to Twist and Shout and had a lot of fun dancing in the hallway as we walked back to our class from the computer lab.
- Book Exchange is on Thursday.
- Read Around the Room is on Friday. Parents and guest welcome.
- The Saanich Police will be here next Tuesday, June 7th for our annual bike safety rodeo. All are invited to participate by bringing your bike (with or without training wheels) or your scooter and don't forget your helmet! My class will be parking their wheels outside our classroom by our outside class door. Signs will be posted. The wheels will be left there all day until our turn for the bike rodeo. You can pick up the wheels from the same drop off location at the end of the day. The children will be invited to do a short obstacle track with the police and they will also do safety check to make sure their helmet is on and fitting properly.
- The Ocean Discovery Centre field trip notice went home on Friday. Thank you to those who have returned them already. We are still looking for drivers for 8 children. If you are able to help out, please indicate that on the back of the form when you hand it in. Our field trip is next week, June 8th.
- Our year end all day field trip with all of our Kindergarten friends will be happening on Thursday, June 16th at Island View Beach. Save the date and plan to join us! (More details will be coming next week.)
- June calendars are going home this week, but to save paper I am only sending them to the few students we have yet to have a turn having Mr. Bear come home for a visit. This is our last rotation of Special Helpers as we do not have enough days for another rotation before the end of the year. Can't believe June is here already!
Classroom News:
- This week our sign-in is going to focus on our last names.
- We are finishing up our 50+ art and writing this week in time for the 50th Celebration on Wednesday.
- We are continuing kick ball this week in gym. We will play some warm-up games, play some introductory kick ball games, and begin to learn the rules of kick ball.
- We continue to learn about 2D shapes this week. We are learning the names and notices how many sides each shape has. We will show our learning and make a shape pizza this week.
