Upcoming Dates / Reminders:
- A special notice went home about Lochside's 50+ year anniversary. Lochside started around '62/'63. We are asking the Ks to bring in something that is about 50 years old and we will put it on display during the first week of June when Lochside has the celebration. Please see your notice from last week for more details and ask if you need any clarification.
- Book Exchange is on Thursday. Please return library books before then as well as the poem duotangs which went home last week.
- Our field trip to Parkland is on Thursday. We will be leaving the school around 11:45am and eating our lunch before we go. We are excited for the show the high school students are performing.
- Read Around the Room is on Friday. All parents/guests welcome.
- Friday is our Parent Appreciation. Please stop by for a coffee & treat. We couldn't do the activities we have around Lochside without your support. Thank you!
- A HUGE thank you to the parents for the incredible Teacher Appreciation last week. The movie-themed week was outstanding. From the candy bar to the lunch, the ice cream bar to the Oscars, and all the kind words/notes. Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We really felt appreciated.
- A new special helper job started this week (this is our final rotation). The job this time is to take home Mr. Bear and let him have a sleepover. He can join your child with the evening's activities. There is a paper to draw his adventures and a spot to write about it too. Bring Mr. Bear and the sheet back to school the next day so we can add it to our class book.
Classroom News:
- We are focusing on the letter Vv this week. 2 more letters to go!
- In our Journal time today, we talked about what makes a great author. Here were some of our ideas: detailed drawings, using many colours, big, bold and beautiful, anyone can be authors and write too, practice!
- We are having a games week in the gym. Today we played the human alphabet and a bean bag relay.
- We have a new invitation during centers. A 2D shape station has been set-up with geoboards and elastics. What shapes can you make? We saw some squares and triangles today.
- Over the weekend we noticed our caterpillars have turned into chrysalids. After eating and growing over the last 10 days, they climbed to the top of their lids in a 'j' shape and shed their exoskeleton before pupating. Our butterfly habitat is being set-up and once the chysalids have fully formed, we'll move them into their habitats. We can't wait for the butterflies to emerge in a week. Hopefully it'll happen when we're here!
