Classroom News:

  • We will finish up the virtue Perseverance this week. We use stories to talk about persevering by trying, learning from your experiences, and working hard.
  • We have continued our exploration with seeds. Our water table has been changed into a planting station and the children have had fun planting seeds. We are learning how much water and soil is just right for our seeds. Speaking of seeds, our bean seed is growing! The brown part is being pushed away by a new green part. We will read some books and watch some video clips to help us name the parts of the bean seed as it grows.
  • This week we will finish up with our parachute play in the gym.
  • Last week we enjoyed our visit with the school counsellor, Mrs. Fedrigo. We learned about the 'Zones of Regulation' and have a poster up in our classroom to refer to throughout the day. Please ask your child about the zones and what the colours represent (blue, green, yellow, and red). You can read more about this approach here: http://zonesofregulation.com/index.html
  • We went to the computer lab today and explored some math games on Starfall here.
  • On Friday we are going to work on our Journals in a new way and I need some help from home:

Dear Parents,

Your child is on the hunt for new ideas for writing (Journal). Will you help your child select an object that will be a starting point for their Journal? This object should:

- be personally meaningful to your child

- have a story behind it (perhaps how your child got it and why it is special)

- be of little monetary value (in case it gets lost)

- be easy to carry

The object could be a refrigerator magnet from a special vacation, a rock from the front yard where your child learned to ride a bike or shoot baskets, a ticket stub from a favourite concert or sporting event, a picture of someone or something important, or a card or letter from a special person. We are going to be telling a story about why this object is special. The object will be going home on Friday.

Thanks for your help!
