A lot is happening in the next few weeks. Please read the information below carefully so you can stay on top of the happenings in our class and around the school.
Upcoming Dates / Reminders:
- Wednesday is our 100th day of school. We will be doing various activities centred around the number of 100, and of course we'll be coming to school dressed as if we were 100 years old. A blue notice with ideas went home Thursday last week.
- A new Special Helper job is starting tomorrow (Tuesday), 'Cultural Suitcase.' During our Morning Meeting last week, we were talking about Chinese New Year and discovered we have many Chinese friends in our class. Other children shared where their families are from, so for our next Special Helper job, students are invited to fill the suitcase with items that share their families culture(s), traditions, customs, background, interests, etc...anything that defines who they are. They could bring objects, artifacts, food to share (nut-free), clothing, and/or photographs that relate to their family culture and identity. I am excited to see the diversity and similarities in our class! Let me know if you have any questions/concerns.
- Our field trip to the museum is this Thursday, February 18th. Please make sure your child has a good breakfast before school. We will have a small snack at 9am before boarding the bus at 9:30am. Our Predator vs Prey program runs from 10am-12pm. After the program, weather permitting, we will be heading outside to enjoy some fresh air and our lunch. Please have your child's lunch kit packed so it is easy for them to bring to the museum and eat outside, picnic-style. After lunch we will head back inside for a self-guided tour of the museum. Thank you parents for volunteering. You will have a small group of kids to take around the museum for approximately 1 hour. Our bus leaves at 2:15pm from the museum to return for the end of school.
- Friday, February 19th is a non-instructional day. Staff only in session for professional development.
- Pink Shirt day is on February 24th. Please support anti-bullying by wearing something pink on that day.
Classroom News:
Social Responsibility: We continue to talk about FAIRNESS. We can show fairness by sharing and taking turns.
Literacy: This week we are focusing on the letter Mm.
Science: We will finish our murals on animals in winter by labelling to show what we have learned about how animals survive in winter.
Gym: We will be doing a mini-unit on dance in the next couple of weeks.
