Hi Parents ~ Thank you for taking the time to meet with me last week for parent-teacher conferences.  It is always a great time of sharing successes of each student and highlighting the areas we are working on in the class.  There will be a time coming up for your child to share their portfolio and journal.  This will be a open-house format and will take place in our classroom on Wednesday, November 25th from 3-5pm.

Upcoming Dates / Reminders:

  • Field trip forms have gone home for our next field trip on Friday, November 27th to Dansko.  So far we have drivers for 6 children and need many more.  Take the time in the next week to get your driver's form and criminal records check completed.  If we are short drivers, it is possible to drive only your child on this field trip.
  • Poems books from the month of October went home on Thursday with our library books.  Just a reminder that poem books are to be enjoyed over the weekend (have your child read to/with the poems) and return them on Monday.
  • We have only 2 days of school this week.  No school on Wednesday (Remembrance Day), Thursday and Friday (non-instructional days).
  • Lochside is having a Remembrance Day assembly tomorrow (Tuesday) at 10am.  Parents are welcome to attend.  Each student will be given a poppy to wear and each class will have a jar for donations.

Classroom News:

Today we read 'A Poppy is to Remember' and learned a poem about poppies.  We looked at some poppy artwork by Georgia O'Keefe and tried to create our own mixing different colours together.  Tomorrow we will finish our poppies and talk about what is peaceful to us.  Tomorrow we will join the Lochside community at the assembly as a way to thank those who have worked hard to keep Canada safe and free for all.

Tomorrow we will have some fun in the gym with beanbag stunts and some tossing games.

The children continue to have lots of fun in our pet store creating cages and deciding who will be the pets and who will be the owners.  We are learning how to work together peacefully!

Did you know we have a class twitter account?  Twitter is a tool I use to connect with parents and other educators and share what is happening in our classroom.  Check us out at @missnorris63 or click on the link here:

I do not post pictures of students' faces or names but try to tweet once a day one aspect from our day.  Try showing your child the picture from the day and ask them to tell you about it.  Our twitter feed is open so you can view the posts without an account.  If you are on twitter, feel free to follow us!
