Classroom News:
Did you know we have a class twitter account? Twitter is a tool I use to connect with parents and other educators and share what is happening in our classroom. Check us out at @missnorris63 or click on the link here:

I do not post pictures of students' faces or names but try to tweet once a day one aspect from our day. Try showing your child the picture from the day and ask them to tell you about it. Our twitter feed is open so you can view the posts without an account. If you are on twitter, feel free to follow us!
Theme Studies: We are wrapping up our fall theme and will sketch our gourds in our Science books before they go into the compost. Today we had a guest from Swan Lake teach us about owls. We looked at many different pictures of owls, noticed their sizes, looked closely at their weathers, feathers, and claws, and listened to the sounds different owls make. We were astonished to listen to the difference between the sound an owl feather makes compared to a goose feather. Throughout the year we will be learning about different local animals so for the next couple of weeks we will continue to learn about owls.
Social Responsibility: This week we think and draw pictures of ways we can take care of ourselves, take care of each other, and take care of our community at Lochside. We have been reading lots of books to help us think of ways to be socially responsible. We have enjoyed Mo Willems book 'Can I Play Too?' and we love Todd Park's books, 'The Feel Good Book' and 'It's Okay to Be Different.'
Language Arts: Today we used play dough to form the letters 'Nn' and 'Oo.' We practised forming both the upper and lower case letters. We used the letters to spell the word 'no' and noticed if we didn't put them in the right order, it spelled 'on.' After play dough practice, we searched for the word 'no' in our November poem.
Math: On Monday we played a game in the afternoon called 'Roll a Leaf.' We rolled a die, counted the dots, and matched it to a leaf on our game board. We had to roll the die a lot to fill up our board!
Gym: In Gym we are playing with scarves and learning to toss and catch. We practised holding the scarf in 'ghost' position and flicking our wrists before releasing. We used the 'claw' position to catch the scarf. On Thursday we will try more tossing and catching tricks with 2 scarves.
