Hi Parents ~ Lots is happening around classroom and Lochside in the next couple of weeks.  Please take note of the important information below.

Upcoming Dates / Reminders:

  • Photo Retake is on Wednesday this week.  Your Picture Retake Day is Coming! Get a second chance to capture the perfect image.  Didn’t love your picture? Simply return your Proof Portrait Sheet and Order Form to the Photographer on retake day.  For Tips on preparing for photo day visit www.lifetouch.ca  Questions call Lifetouch at 1-866-457-8212 or email: guestservices@lifetouch.ca
  • Field Trip this Thursday to Galey Farms!  We will be going by bus so no need for booster seats.  Please send your child with appropriate clothes for the farm, rain or shine (boots, rain jacket).  We will be there all morning so a good breakfast is important on Thursday and a small snack that can fit into their pocket to have at Galey's.  We will be back at school in time for the lunch play and eating period.
  • Book Exchange is on Thursday---due to the field trip in the morning, we will have it in the afternoon at the end of the day. We had almost everyone remember their books last week.  Thank you! If you haven't yet returned your blue poem book (duotang) that went home at the end of September, please return it ASAP.  We add our October poems and resend the duotang at the end of October.
  • No Read Around the Room this Friday as it is a Non-Instructional Day for students.  Teachers only in session on Friday.  I am excited to be travelling up island for an early years conference, 'Sparking Inspiration' on play-based, outdoor learning and look forward to implementing some new strategies into our classroom.

  • Stelly's will be running their nineteenth annual Halloween Howl in conjunction with Panorama on Friday, October 30th.  The event was designed to offer a safe and exciting Halloween environment for young children and it is run by our Outdoor Pursuits classes.  The event is for children ages 1-12 and runs from 4:30-6:30pm in the Stelly's small gymnasium.  Entry to the "Howl" is free and the event will have loads of Halloween themed games and stations for young children to participate in.  Not to mention prizes, candy and a free pass to Panorama Rec Center.

Classroom News:

Speaking & Listening:

  • This week we are focusing on being a good friend to others by showing respect.  We can play fair and follow the rules.  We can listen and speak kindly.  We can share and wait my turn.

Reading & Writing:

  • Letters:

  • Last week we learned about the letters O, U, R, and A.  This week we are focusing on W, X, F, and V.  We are almost through all of the letters!

Science:

  • This week we will look closely at other signs of fall: pumpkins!  We have some gourds and pumpkins at our Science Center and are encouraged to look closely with a magnifying glass and try what we see.  This week we will be starting to learn about pumpkins, ask questions, and investigate.  We will be bringing a pumpkin back from Galey's to use with our investigation.

Music:

  • We are looking forward to another singing class with Mrs. Chater.

Gym:

  • This week we continue to work on moving safely throughout the gym by looking for open spaces, changing directions and pathways.
