We had a great Monday back and seem ready for our first week of full day classes.

Upcoming Dates / Reminders:

  • We started our Special Helper job today.  The first job is to bring in a family picture so we can get to know one another.  The picture will be staying in our classroom for the entire year on our 'Family' board and will be returned in June.  A printed off photo is fine, no larger than letter size please. 4x6 is perfect.
  • Thank you for those who have handed in their Scholastic orders.  These are now due.  New to Scholastic this year is an option for parents to pay online.  You still send in the order form but I will get an email notification that your payment has already been made online.  (I am currently waiting for this option to be in effect by Scholastic. It should be made available by Tuesday night) You can find out more here: http://www.scholastic.ca/clubs/parentpay/
  • Individual photos are happening Wednesday, Sept.23rd.
  • Terry Fox run is happening on Friday at 10:30am.  Please make sure your child is wearing comfortable clothes and outside runners to join the rest of the school in running for Terry.  We will also be collecting 'loonies and toonies for Terry.'
  • Fun Lunch is on Friday.
  • Please help your child remember to leave toys at home.  We encourage the children to play with the toys in the classroom that way toys from home do not get lost or broken.  There will be opportunities at times for the children to bring a toy from home once in a while.  Thank you!
  • Don't forget to return the plastic sleeves so we can reuse them for notices!

Classroom News:

Letters:

  • Over the next few weeks we will be looking at a letter of the alphabet a day, as they become meaningful to us.  We learned about the letter 'J' today because the Special Helper's name started with that letter.  We talked about the sound, the shape, and coloured a page to help us remember.  These letter pages will be going home each day.  If a child is away, I will tuck on the sheets in their mail box to take home when they return.

Speaking & Listening:

  • We have been listening to stories, sharing our ideas, singing songs, rhymes, poems, and practising taking turns this month as we learn the routines and expectations of Kindergarten.

Reading & Writing and Art:

  • This week we are working on a 'Chicka Chicka Boom Boom' art project.  We learned about how many letters are in our name, read the book, and are recreating our own coconut trees to put the letters of our name on. The children have been cutting and pasting like pros!  These will be on display by the end of the week on our hallway bulletin board.

Gym:

  • This month we are focusing on moving safely in the gym, looking for empty spaces, trying not to bump into our friends.  The boys and girls have loved the games we have played to practice these skills.
