Thank you to our staff and admin who invited parents into their classrooms and hosted a fun Welcome Back Picnic this last Thursday.

Popcorn Day
Our first Popcorn Day is this Wednesday! Please send in your form with your child this week if you haven't already - it's only $5 for a whole year of popcorn days!

Lochside Halloween Event

We have so far one wonderful volunteer to help organise this event for October 20th. Please, please please sign up here to help as at least two people helping would be best to keep the job manageable. Thank you!

Orange Shirt Day

Orange Shirt Day will be observed at Lochside on September 29th.

To learn about why we wear orange, please read Phyllis Webstad’s story here.

We still have a small number of Lochside branded orange shirts in youth L and XL only as well as all adult sizes. These shirts were produced in an effort to increase participation in and awareness of Orange Shirt Day and our National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage you to have your child write “Every Child Matters” on the back of their shirt.

Any revenue raised will be going directly back to Victoria Orange Shirt Day and the Orange Shirt Society. Email us at lochsidepac63@gmail.com if you’d like us to hold a size for you.

Victoria Orange Shirt day is also selling orange shirts in smaller children’s sizes through local vendors around Victoria for $25. You can find a list of locations here (they recommended Big Wheel Burger in Saanich as having the biggest selection of sizes).

Special Event for Parents

Event Timing: September 28 @ 7pm

Location: Lochside Elementary School, Learning Commons

Please RSVP Here

What:

Getting the most out of reading at home with your child

Dr. Orla Colgate is a faculty member of the School of Education and Leadership at City University, Seattle, teaching on the Master’s in School Counselling Program. Orla has a PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia. Her research area is family involvement in education with a focus on literacy and children’s mental health. She would like to share her knowledge of how families can support their children in learning to read and will address some common misunderstandings around the subject. She will provide a one-hour presentation on the most important information that you need to know to support your child in reading, with lists of resources for further reading. This presentation will be helpful for any parents who want to understand the research about how children learn to read and how families can help. If you have any questions about the presentation, you can email her on colgateorla@cityu.edu

Fun Lunch
The first ordering deadline for Fun Lunch is this week - September 30. Please contact lochsidefunlunch@gmail.com if you have any questions or feedback.

We are still looking for a Communications Coordinator for our LEPAC Exec. This role would have you attending monthly LEPAC meetings and assisting in spreading the word about LEPAC initiatives to our community. Please email us if you’d like to learn more or if you’re interested in taking this on.
