Dr. Orla Colgate is a faculty member of the School of Education and Leadership at City University, Seattle, teaching on the Master’s in School Counselling Program. Orla has a PhD from the University of Sydney, Australia. Her research area is family involvement in education with a focus on literacy and children’s mental health. She would like to share her knowledge of how families can support their children in learning to read and will address some common misunderstandings around the subject. She will provide a one-hour presentation on the most important information that you need to know to support your child in reading, with lists of resources for further reading. This presentation will be helpful for any parents who want to understand the research about how children learn to read and how families can help. If you have any questions about the presentation, you can email her on colgateorla@cityu.edu
