Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:

  • We've had a great last week working on our goals of listening to one another, taking care of our supplies and our classroom. We had a great start to this week and look forward to being the best we can be. What an improvement!
  • Trail Walk is on Wednesday this week from 8:50-9:20am. Families are welcome to join us!
  • Non-instructional day is this Friday, February 14th - no school for students. Teachers in session only. I am looking forward to an outdoor education workshop in the morning and a working session with staff in the afternoon on effectively using Google tools and technology to support and enhance the work we do with students.
  • With no school on Valentine's Day, we'll be celebrating this Thursday. Today we made Valentine's boxes to collect and transport our goodies home. If your child would like to hand out Valentines, we sent a class checklist home on Friday to help them with their classmates names. Please remember that we have nut allergies in our class if you are sending treats.
  • Family Day is next Monday - enjoy the time together and we'll see you back after the long weekend on Tuesday, February 18th.
  • Grade 5 camp information meeting is coming up on Tuesday, February 18th from 6:00-6:30pm in Lochside's Learning Commons (library).
  • Keep your eyes out for a field trip form coming home this week for a skating trip coming up with our buddies, Ms. Miller's K/1 class on Friday afternoon, February 21st.

What are we working on in class?

  • Math: We are working independently on the multiplication strategy we know best to show our understanding. Later in the week we'll be moving to division.
  • Gym: This week we continue our basketball tournament.
  • Reading: This month we will be focusing on non-fiction features. In Social Studies over the next month we will be learning to research, take notes, and present our learning. To support our research, we will be reviewing how to read an informational book. This week we will be discussing using headings, subheadings, bold print, and italic print.
  • Social Studies/Writing: We continue our Two Worlds Meet project. This week are learning about the fur trade and how it helped propel westward expansion. We are also looking at the interactions between settlers and Indigenous peoples. We will be briefly exploring the Indian Act, Residential Schools, and treaties.
