- This week we are gearing up to partner with Habitat Acquisition Trust and their "Green Spots" program, a program that involves students in the creation of outdoor green areas on school grounds for play and learning. During the last week of October we will be planting native plants around the trail on the other side of the fence behind the outdoor learning center. In preparation for our planting and restoration work “Beyond the Fence,” we are urgently looking to gather a supply of cardboard. If you have cardboard (preferably boxes without images or tape) at home please send them to school with your child or deliver them directly to the area behind the green spinner, by the gate to our trail. It will be stored under a large tarp for next week. Thank you for your support with this Lochside community project!
- Photo Retakes are this Thursday.
- Halloween Party & Family Dance, Thursday, October 24th, 5:30-8:00. It's a Hotel Transylvania Halloween Party @ Lochside!
- Non-Instructional Day is this Friday. Teachers will be involved in various professional development activities. No school for students.
What are we working on in class?
- Spelling: This week we are looking closely at vowel pairs. A vowel pair is when two vowels come together to make one long vowel sound. /ai/ and /ay/ spell the long 'a' sound you hear in drains and decay. /oa/ and /ow/ spell the long 'o' sound you hear in coast and borrow.
- Math: We continue to work on building larger numbers in many different ways - this week we are focusing on expanded form and base ten.
- Writing: Expert writers follow their plan to write a rough draft. After the rough draft we are working on revising and editing in order to improve our work. We are looks for details to add, remove unimportant parts, move words or sentences around, and substitute boring words for exciting ones. We are also looking to make sure each of our sentences begins with a capital along with proper nouns, as well as using appropriate punctuation and spelling.
- Gym: For the month of October we'll be working on soccer skills. This week we'll be working on rules of the game before we start our tournament next week.
- Reading: With Ms. Ammaturo we will be learning about the different genres that we may come across as readers. Knowing the genres will help us learn about which books we enjoy reading.
- Social/Emotional Learning: A couple of weeks ago Mrs. O'Leary and Mrs. Fedrigo reviewed the Zones of Regulation. This week we are discussing tools that we can use when we are mad, frustrated, tired, etc. to get us ready to learn. This week we are finishing up our tool kit when blue zone tools. What helps us when we feel sick, tired, sad, bored, hurt, or exhausted, get ready to learn at school and feel good about ourself and our friendships.
- Science: Ms. Ammaturo continues to teach us about matter - solids, liquids, and gas.
