Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:

  • Trail Walk is on Wednesday this week. Families are welcome to join us from 8:50-9:20am. 
  • Cross Country runners - your final race is this Wednesday after school at Centennial Park. Have a great race!
  • Grade 5s will be visiting Royal Oak Middle School on Thursday morning. Thank you for sending in the permission forms so promptly! Grade 4s will be staying back for an emergency preparedness presentation.
  • Friday, May 3rd is our class photo and the whole school photo. Each student will receive a class photo. If you would like to order a whole school photo, they are $10. I have an extra order form if anyone needs one.
  • Grade 5 families - a letter for the remaining camp funds will be going home next week. Stay tuned!

Math: We will be starting fractions and decimals this week. We will be learning that fractions and decimals are types of numbers that can represent quantities. Grade 4s will be learning about adding/subtracting decimals to tenths and hundredths as well as comparing and ordering fractions. Grade 5s will be extending their decimals to thousandths, learning about equivalent fractions, and placing decimals, fractions, and whole numbers on a number line (benchmark).

Social Studies: We have started a mini-unit on First Nations government. Our guiding question is - How have First Nations government changed over time? This week we will explore the concept of stewardship and land ownership.

Tech Tuesday: We are going to be using Scratch to extend our block-based coding skills. Students will be creating an account through my teacher account. They are welcome to use these credentials at home too.

Physical Education: We have started a volleyball unit and have begun to explore how the game of volleyball works. We are learning how to bump, set, and serve the ball this week.

Drama: This week we decided on different jobs that need to be done for our class play. Ask your child what they signed up for! We are starting to meet with our groups and begin planning our parts.

Reading Studio: We are excited to have an author visit with Sylvia Olsen this week.

Science: This week we will continue to learn about simple machines in the class. We will be exploring wheel & axles, levers, screws, wedges, and more!
