Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:

  • Trail Walk is on Wednesdays from 8:50-9:20am. Families are welcome to join us on the weekly walk!
  • Pink Shirt Day is coming up on Wednesday this week at Lochside. Support anti-bullying by wearing pink on February 27th.
  • We need headphones! We have been exploring music creation through the iPad app Garage Band and don't have enough headphones for the iPads. If you have a set laying around the house you wouldn't mind sending in to school in a labelled baggie, or just a folded over piece of labelled masking tape, we'll put them to good use. The small white ear buds that come with Apple devices fit nicely in our iPad covers. We will keep these in students' individual supplies box. They will not be used by other students and will be sent home at the end of the year.
  • No school on Monday, March 4th. Teachers only in session that day.
  • Early dismissal is coming up on Thursday, March 7th. Students need to be picked up an hour early that day at 1:48pm. Our class will most likely be hosting an open house on that afternoon. Stay tuned for an invite to come in and see what we have been up to this term.
  • Grade 5 camp meeting is coming up on Tuesday, March 5th. Join us from 6:00-6:30pm in the Lochside Learning Commons to hear some important information regarding camp.

Novel Study: We continue with our novel studies on immigration and diversity. Students have been selecting book(s) to read and respond to independently and then meet up with others in Grade 4/5 who have been reading the same book to share their journal responses. Our reading studio lessons have been focusing on skills to help us go deeper with our reflections - we are working on inferencing skills and connecting the books to the bigger concepts of immigration and diversity.

Social Studies: We continue to learn about the gold rush and some of the key people that led to B.C. joining confederation.

Math: We are getting more and more comfortable with our multiplication strategies. Grade 5s will be extending their thinking to include double-digit multiplication. Grade 4s will continue with single digit multiplication by 3 or 4-digits.

Writing Studio: We are spicing up our fantasy writing by adding dialogue and figurative language. These are getting close to being done. We can't wait to share!

Coding: We will be using our spheros on Wednesday to continue to learn about block coding. How can we get our coding robot to move in a straight line, go around an object, and come back to us. That is this week's challenge!
