Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:

  • Our first Trail Walk is tomorrow - Wednesday! We will be on the trail from 8:50-9:20am. Parents and grandparents are welcome to join us.
  • Our class is participating in the Lochside Water Challenge. Each day the challenge is to drink 1L of water. Students who have a water bottle at school were given elastic bands to help them keep track of their water consumption and then fill in a box on our class water chart when they've completed the challenge. Today we had 9 students in Division 3 complete the challenge. Three students reported that they had more energy and felt less grumpy when they are properly hydrated. Way to go! We are hoping to have more students meet the challenge tomorrow. We are keeping track for one week.

Here's what we're up to in class:

  • Spelling: We continue to look for the sounds the letters 'gn' and 'tch' make to finish off our work from last week.
  • Gym: We have been practising passing, receiving, and dribbling skills through games and drills. Defense, shooting, and goal tending are next!
  • Math: This week we are finishing exploring standard form, expanded form, word form, and place value with larger numbers. The tricky part is to remember to hold the place that has no value with a zero.
  • Reading Studio: We continue to work on building good reading habits. One strategy to help us is to follow the story mountain in our story and be able to talk about the setting, key events, and conflict and problem.
  • Art: Students have been so excited to imagine, plan, and create their own Harry Potter themed art projects to help decorate Lochside for next week's Halloween party. We are finishing them this week in class!
  • S.S.: We reviewed democracy and dictatorship to help us learn more about our government and the differences between these two types of governments. Next we are learning about the levels of government and will be sorting examples of responsibilities for each level.
