Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:
- Last forms to come in for the moment are FreshGrade and the Firehall field trip this Friday. We will be gone to the firehall for most of the entire morning and back around 12:30pm.
- No Trail Walk this Wednesday as I am away at an all day workshop. Hopefully we'll get going next Wednesday!
- No school on Monday. Happy Thanksgiving to our families!
Here's what we're up to in class:
- Spelling: We are looking for the sounds the letters 'gn' and 'tch' make in this week's words.
- Gym: After a month of group games we will be starting some soccer skills for the next 3 weeks.
- Math: This week we are exploring standard form, expanded form, word form, and place value with larger numbers. Today we played a 'Guess the Number' game in class that we all enjoyed. Ask your child the types of questions they asked to guess their number. Many students were using proper place value language to discover where the digit fit.
- Reading Studio: We have finished learning about genres and starting to find our rhythm for reading daily. Some expert readers in our class gave us tips on how to stay with a book and finish it. This week we will check in on our understanding by talking about what we have read with a peer.
- Writing Studio: This week we will be revising and editing our writing. When we revise look for words and sentences to add, unneeded words and sentences to remove, move words or sentences to make more sense, and substitute fancy words for dead words. When we edit we capitalize names, places, titles, and I, we match nouns and verbs correctly, we use proper punctuation, and check all spelling words.
- S.S.: We have been exploring our rights and responsibilities as citizens in Canada by looking closely at the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Ask us something new that we learned that surprised us! Now we will be looking at different forms of government to finish off this week.
