Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:
- Trail Walk is on Wednesday this week, 8:45-9:00am. Come join us!
- This week we have Teddy Anderson, an artist in residence, who is leading a series of Indigenous cultural workshops through hoop dancing. Students will participate by learning the cultural significance of hoop dancing, making their own hoops, learning a traditional hoop dance, and sharing their dance with the school and community members on Friday. Our class’ performance is at 12:30pm in the gym and we would love to see you there!
- This is our final week of term two before spring break. At this time we would like you to find some time this week to go through your child's FreshGrade portfolio and reflect on your child's strengths as noted and areas to work on. There are still a couple of posts coming this week once we wrap up our S.S. inquiry project presentations and the end of term summary statement will be posted on or before Thursday.
- Spring break starts next week. No school for two weeks. We hope families find some time to enjoy the spring weather together. We will be back with regular school hours after the Easter weekend on Tuesday, April 3rd.
- We will be sending home all clothes and indoor shoes over the break. This gives a good chance to check your child's indoors and see if they are still in good shape and a good fit. Please bring back the indoor shoes after the break.
Math: This week students began working on their “dream room” project based off of the question “what type of room does Lochside School need and why?” Students have chosen an idea/theme for their room and have given it a catchy name. Students will create a rough copy of their room’s floor plan which will include labelled dimensions and calculations of their room’s area and perimeter. These rough copies will be used to create the good copies of their floor plans which will be drawn to scale on graph paper.
Social Studies: This week students will work on their oral presentations for their Two Worlds Meet inquiry project. Students will summarize and organize their research in order to effectively share their learning with the class and museum visitors. Students will practice presenting their projects to the class on Tuesday and Wednesday. This Thursday from 8:30-11:00am is our museum day! Students will share their research, learning, and hard work to students, staff, and community members. If you are available, we would love for you to join us and visit our museum. Please see invite attached below.
Gym: This week we are finishing our unit on cooperative games with a final Lochside Amazing Race team challenge. Students will continue working in their teams to complete a series of new challenges and tasks that showcase their teamwork, problem solving, and communication skills.
Language Arts: This week students will edit and revise the rough copies of their autobiography books. Students will work towards strengthening their paragraph writing skills as we examine ways to write strong conclusion sentences as well as ways to add more details to our writing.
