Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:
- Grade 5 Camp Thunderbird meeting for parents is on Tuesday, 6:00-6:30pm in the library.
- No school for students on Friday. Teachers will be engaging in professional development activities. I am excited to spent some time looking into inquiry-based learning and math.
- Field trip to UVic to enjoy the Victoria Symphony is next Monday morning. We'll be travelling by bus.
Math: This week students are showing what they know of area and perimeter. They will be constructing shapes to measure and using technology to show their learning.
Gym: This week we are playing cooperative games with Ms. Webster. We are learning to work together and communicate to reach a common goal.
Writing Studio: This week students will be continuing their autobiography paragraphs by editing and revising their interests paragraph and starting a paragraph on their family.
Social Studies: Today we launched the inquiry portion of our project. After a month of building our background knowledge on the histories of Canada, looking at the interactions between Indigenous and explorers, students will be developing a deep question that they want to explore further and create a way to share their learning at the end of three weeks of research. In order to be successful, students visited 5 stations to fill their tool kit with the skills they need such as: note-taking, developing a deep question, ways to share their learning, writing a bibliography, and how to choose a good source. Ask your child which topic they want to explore further.
Art: This week students will be exploring self-portraits through collage with Ms. Webster.
