Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:

  • Valentine's Day is tomorrow. Students are invited to bring Valentines to hand out to their friends first thing in the morning before our trail walk.
  • Trail Walk is on Wednesday (tomorrow!). Come join us at 8:45-9:15am on the trail.
  • Grade 5 Parents: a notice and permission forms went home last week about Camp Thunderbird. Please pencil in a camp meeting for parents at Lochside on Tuesday, February 20th from 6:00-6:30pm in the Learning Commons (library). Also please note: The camp fee is $225 but only $115 is due before spring break. This is because our fundraising team has yet to see how much they will be able to cover for our students. We will have the remaining amount due after spring break.

Social Studies: This week we are finishing up our lesson on the fur trade and will look at Indigenous/settler relationships in Canada through looking at treaties, the potlatch ban, and residential school.

Math: This week we continue to explore perimeter with polygons with Ms. Webster and will start to explore area as well using geoboards. Grade 4s will be exploring the Big Idea: Polygons are closed shapes with similar attributes that can be described, measured, and compared. Grade 5s will be exploring the Big Idea: Closed shapes have area and perimeter that can be described, measured, and compared.

Gym: This week we are playing cooperative games with Ms. Webster. We are learning to work together and communicate to reach a common goal.

Writing Studio: Ms. Webster is helping us write our first two paragraphs for our autobiographies. We are learning more about one another as we share our interests for one of our paragraphs.

Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies: In preparation for Valentine's Day we designed and built something to hold and transport our Valentines home in. Tomorrow we will see how our designs worked when put to the test. I wonder if anyone will need to improve theirs?
