Important Dates and/or Reminders:

  • Thank you so much, parents, for your understanding with our crazy week of winter weather. Hopefully we've seen the last of it and can get back to a regular schedule soon.
  • We've had to be very flexible with the disruption of the weather this week and are trying to get the Grade 4 FSAs done.
  • Lochside Trail walk will continue next Wednesday, weather permitting. Feel free to join us by signing up here.
  • Grade 5 Camp Thunderbird notices went home last week. Thank you if you returned your form already. We are in the process of rescheduling the parent meeting and will let you know as soon as the date is set.
  • Pink Shirt Day order forms went home last week. Money is due on February 10th---tomorrow!
  • Scholastic orders went home last week----orders due tomorrow!
  • We have space in the computer lab in the morning for Reflex Math. If your child could use some extra practice, our lab is open at 8:00am every morning and is supervised by an EA. Let me know if your child would like to use this time to practice their facts and I can put their name on the list.
  • No school on Monday, February 13th. Enjoy your Family Day long weekend.
  • Valentine's Day is on Tuesday. Students are invited to bring in Valentine's for their peers----I will ask the students tomorrow if they need a list of classmates. We talked about the Engineering Design Process during 'STEAM' today (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) and the students have been asked to design a system for collecting their Valentine's to bring home on Tuesday. Tomorrow (Friday) we will be using materials from school (and from home if they so choose) to create our designs.

Spelling

  • No Spelling this week or next. Lucky students are getting a break!

Math

  • We are getting back on track with math lessons and have started to look at different strategies to solve 3-digit by 1-digit questions for the Grade 4s and 2- and 3-digits by 2-digits for the Grade 5s
  • We will practice each strategy and the students are invited to use the strategy that works best for them. We will be looking at the traditional, box, cluster, and lattice method.

Social Studies

  • We are finishing up learning about the CPR and are creating a brochure to share our learning.

Gym

  • We started our tournament today. Ask your child their team name!
