Upcoming Dates / Reminders:

  • Winter has arrived with the colder weather. Please send your child each day with appropriate gear: hats, gloves, warm winter coat, boots, etc. Mud pants are great for those outside play times at Water Works or the courtyard. Kindergarten is messy!
  • Kindergarten vision, hearing, and dental screening letter went home today. Please read the information carefully. This is put on by Public Health. There is a number on the letter to contact with any questions or if you do not want to participate.
  • Scholastic orders went home last week. Please have your orders in by Wednesday this week. If you pay online, you still need to send the order in to school so we can complete your order.
  • Book Exchange is on Thursday morning. Please return your library books by Wednesday.
  • Read Around the Room this week on Friday, 8:40-9:00am. Parents and grandparents welcome!
  • Fun Lunch is on Friday this week.
  • Save the Date!  We are heading to the museum by school bus on February 18th and need some parent volunteers to join us. You must have a criminal records check done for this trip, as you will be chaperoning 2-3 students in the museum. Permission slips will be going home in early February where you can indicate if you'd like to join us. This is an all day field trip.

Classroom News:

Social Responsibility: For the next 2 weeks we will be talking about citizenship. Last week we learned that: We can be a good citizen by being a good friend and by respecting the rules. This week we will learn to be a good citizen by being a good family member and by being a good student.

Literacy:

  • Today we watched the 't' and 'i' Alphablocks video clips. We noticed that when we put the sounds S, A, and T together, we formed 'sat' and if we put the sounds S, I, and T together, we form the word 'sit.'
  • At the end of the week we will look at some poems we have been learning in class and will practice reading and tracking with our finger.

Science: The students have been very interested in snow. Where does snow come from? How is snow formed? We have been looking for answers to our questions in books and videos and asking our friends. We are beginning to build an understanding of snow and have learned some things about snowflakes. This week we will try out a science experiment on ice crystals and document our observations using drawings. We will also try some art with 'ice crystals' using hot water in salt. Finally we will document what we've learned about snow by drawing snowflakes and write about our learning.

Gym: This week we will be learning how to dribble with 2 hands and with 1 hand.
