There's a lot happening this week! Please consider the following important dates and volunteer opportunities:
Year End BBQ
Mark your calendars! Lochside’s Year End BBQ is this Thursday, June 18th from 5 – 8 pm at Lochside School. Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Caesar Salad and chips will be served from 5–7 pm and will be by donation (suggested donation of $5 per meal or $10 per family). There will be many fun activities for all including Bouncy Castles, a Photo Booth and an ice cream station, to name a few. We are in need of storage for large buckets of ice cream (the large white buckets you see in ice cream shops). If anyone has a cooler or large freezer big enough to accommodate that they would be willing to donate for the day, please contact Jodi at jodiholland1@gmail.com. Remember to bring blankets, water bottles, chairs and cameras! This is a fun event and a great opportunity to socialize with your family and school community. If anyone is still wanting to help, a few more people would make a really big difference to this event! If you've already offered, no need to again, but if you haven't and can help, please email lepacvolunteers@gmail.com. Hope to see you there!
Outdoor Learning Centre
After a bunch of administrative running around, it looks like we are finally getting down to the actual construction of the long awaited Lochside Elementary Outdoor Learning Centre. The first work party is tentatively booked for Monday, June 15th starting at 4pm. This is obviously the biggest project the parents council has taken on since the playground was updated, so we need your help to make it successful. On Monday evening, we will be in the courtyard staining posts and prepping the site for the concrete pour. Any time you can give would be very much appreciated. Our goal is get this project completed before the end of the school year, so any help would be great.
Face Painting
Fun Day is happening Thursday, June 18th. Any time you have between 9-11am to face paint would be wonderful! No experience necessary. It is a ton of fun and the kids absolutely love having their faces painted....you'll see nothing but smiles! Email lepacvolunteers@gmail.com if you can help.
Walking School Bus
The Healthy School Committee is working on organizing a Walking School Bus for next year, and we'd like to start gathering volunteers to ensure Criminal Record Checks are completed before the next school year.
What: Walking School Bus
Where: 2 drop off locations - Emily Carr Playground and McMinn Park
When: Every Wednesday morning starting Sept. 16, 2015. Drop-off between 8 - 8:15 am. Will depart for school at 8:15 am.
How: walking, scooting, skateboards (we are unable to supervise bikes at this time)
Why: 1. To lessen parking lot congestion.
2. In order for parents to drop off earlier and get to work on time
3. So kids get the opportunity to walk to school with their friends, and receive the physical, social and mental benefits of a morning walk.
4. To encourage community-building - an opportunity to meet your neighbors!
Each week we need 4 volunteers (2 at each site). We would love to work towards 16 volunteers. This would mean a parent would only have to walk the group to school 1x/month.
