No School Weekly Update: Sunday, January 14, 2024
by Lochside PAC - Sunday, 14 January 2024, 10:00 AM

In case you missed it, we're sharing urgent information about school closure on Monday and Tuesday, January 15/16... followed by our regular updates and reminders.  Please see below!

******************

Good evening Lochside Community,

I hope this email finds you all safe and warm.

I am emailing to inform families that the water line to the school (closest to Royal Oak Drive/rocks play area) has burst due to the severe cold weather. This is the main water source to our property (school building and LASP portables). Our District Facilities team has been working extensively to locate the needed materials to repair the pipe. However, none are available locally, and therefore must be ordered.

We wanted to give families as much notice as possible to arrange for childcare; the school will be closed on Monday, January 15 and Tuesday, January 16, as the property will be without water - deeming the building not acceptable to have students due to Health & Safety Regulations (bathrooms, handwashing, water fountains etc are not accesible).

We anticipate that the school will re-open on Wednesday, January 17th, but we will need to assess this further on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Please stay connected to your email and the school website for the most to date information.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate your support as we navigate this unfortunate situation.

Please email me if you have any questions. Stay safe and warm.

With gratitude,

Helena

1) *Reminder* "The Wild Robot" is coming to Lochside Elementary ~ Jan 26

Details: January 26. This year is the 25th Family Literacy Day, its theme is "Let's Have a Family Party."

In celebration of all families do to contribute to support literacy development, Lochside Elementary would like to welcome family members and/or guardians in to classrooms at 8:50-9:15 am to read with students.

Students, staff and parents can optionally dress-up as a literary character on this day. A gentle reminder that costumes can not include weapons or masks.  Check out these resources to host your own Family Party on Family Literacy Day 2024.

2) *Reminder* Fun Lunch Sign up / Volunteers Needed (January - June 2024)

We have 10 Fun Lunches planned for the rest of the year. Orders are open on the hot lunch website: https://lochside.hotlunches.net/

Some important things to note:

  • Orders will be accepted until 7:00pm on Thursday the week before a scheduled fun lunch. For example - orders for Friday January 26 will be accepted until 7:00pm on Thursday January 18.
  • Late orders cannot be accommodated.
  • Please read each order screen carefully - there is often extra information to make ordering as easy as possible.
  • Email us at lochsidefunlunch@gmail.com with any questions/concerns sooner rather than later. We would also love to hear from you if you have any suggestions for next year's fun lunches.

Fun Lunch Volunteers

We would not be able to do this for the students if it wasn't for parent volunteers. We would love your help if you can make it work in your schedule:
