Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:

  • It is good to be back with a full class and almost back to our healthy selves. I can see there are quite a few of us still recovering. Please remind your children to drink lots of water, get daily exercise, and a good night's sleep.
  • The final day for the Book Fair tomorrow, Tuesday.
  • Trail Walk is on Wednesdays from 8:50-9:20am. Families are welcome to join us on the weekly walk!
  • ROMS band will be visiting Lochside on Wednesday afternoon and playing for us. How fun!
  • Cross Country runners - your first race is this Wednesday after school at Centennial Park. Have a great race!
  • Grade 5 yearbook: A notice went home last week about baby pictures for the yearbook. Please make sure you get you child's in before the deadline.
  • This week is Easter break. No school on Friday and Monday.

Math: We are getting into division with a Division Cafe menu! Students are choosing items to deepen their understanding of division. They are watching video lessons, working with the teaching, practicing independently on questions, trying projects and problems that extend their thinking, playing games, and teaching division lessons to cement their understanding.

Social Studies: We have started a mini-unit on First Nations government. Our guiding question is - How have First Nations government changed over time? Today we learned about traditional and current forms of First Nations government and wrote down some of our wonderings. One of our wonderings was in hereditary government, what if the family member didn't want the leadership role. We are looking forward to searching for answers to our questions!

Tech Tuesday: We are rolling out the spheros to finish our sphero challenge we started before spring break. Ask your child about some of the challenges they had to code and how they solved them.

Physical Education: It is a games week for gym this week. We will also be having a special session with Kenzen Sports Karate on Wednesday morning after our trail walk. This will be the first of two sessions.

Drama: The students have been asking to do some acting in class this year. After doing some thinking, we are hoping to do a class play based on a story one of our students has written. This week we will take a look at the story and start to brainstorm how we can put our skills and passions together to put on a class play. So fun!
