Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:

  • Trail Walk on Wednesday. Parents are welcome to join us from 8:50-9:20am.
  • An email went out on Friday about a matchbox activity that we need our families' help with. That email explained the activity and also had a link to sign your child up for a day to share. If you didn't receive that email, please let me know and I'll resend it.

Here's what we're up to in class:

  • Math: We have started to study multiplication. Today we reviewed that multiplication can be modeled by groups and arrays. We also explored multiplication as comparison. For example, 3 times as many as 4 soccer balls is 12 soccer balls. We have practiced writing comparison sentences and turning them into equations. We have started with smaller numbers and will build up to larger numbers.
  • Writing Studio: This week continue to work on typing our fantasy story by adding rising action, building tension, and writing descriptively.
  • Reading Studio: We are finishing off learning about theme in stories this week.
  • GymWe continue with basketball skills this week with working on passing and receiving, and game play.
  • Art: Last week we tried drawing Chinese dragons for Chinese New Year. We will finish them this week, add colour and try out Chinese writing. We have some experts in our class who are going to show us how.
  • Coding: We started to talk about coding this week. We talked about what coding is and how it is related to computational thinking. We then created an activity to try out "unplugged" coding. Ask your child about the mouse and card activity.
  • Interdisciplinary Study: Today we launched a project with our Grade 4/5 friends in other classes. We will be exploring the concepts of Immigration and Diversity in Canada through literature. Each child chose a book that they will be reading and responding to in journal format. A letter about our project was sent home today.
