Upcoming Reminders and/or Events:
- Lochside's annual holiday bookshop will be open tomorrow. We will be going to choose a book for mom/dad, a book for a brother/sister, have it wrapped up to put under the tree. Suggested donations are $1/book. Monies collected will be split between the Mustard Seed food bank and Lochside PAC.
- Pyjama Day is on Wednesday for Div.3. They are invited to wear PJs, slippers, and bring their favourite stuffie. What fun!
- Trail Walk is on Wednesday! We will be on the trail from 8:50-9:20am. Parents and grandparents are welcome to join us.
- FreshGrade check-ins have now all been sent. This is a good time to sit down with your child and have a look through their online portfolios together and see the progress over this term.
- Winter concert is coming up! We will be performing 3 songs on Thursday, December 20th at 1pm in the gym.
Here's what we're up to in class:
- Math: This week we are continuing to look at strategies for adding/subtracting easily. The focus this week is thinking about our math thinking. Memorizing is good, but we also want to make sure that we can explain our process in math.
- Writing Studio: We have begun a mini unit on literary devices. We have learned, practiced, and written examples of personification and alliteration. This week we will look at onomatopoeia, hyperbole, and simile or metaphor.
- Science: We continue to think about the importance of water and have started a mini inquiry around the use of water at Lochside's new water bottle refill stations. Today we paid attention to ways the Lochside community uses them in helpful ways and we are looking at ways we can improve our use of the new machines. Next we will explore the question: How might we teach our Lochside community to use the new water bottle refill stations effectively?
- Music: We have a few extra practices this week to get ready for our concert next Thursday. We have put lyrics in the pocket of our agendas. Please encourage your son/daughter to go over the words each night to help them memorize them in time for the concert.
