A Scholastic Book Sale will be held in our library on Wednesday, March 26th and Thursday, March 27th. Open both days before school at 8:15, lunch at 11:15, and after school 2:45-4:45 on Wednesday and 2:45-3:45 on Thursday .
Help promote literacy by buying books for students here at Lochside School. Proceeds will benefit students in Ethiopia. We'll support an Ethiopia Reads project to bring books to children in remote areas by a horse horse drawn bookmobile! Www.ethiopiareads.org
At Lochside School in the library, we have been learning more about literacy, inquiry and methods of research in our own Canadian community and comparing it to life and literacy in other parts of the world, in particular Ethiopia. As a focus, we've questioned and explored the relative ease of access to an education and literacy and discovered great needs in areas of Ethiopia.
Many students have expressed a desire to contribute to the needs of these children and, as global citizens, support a worthy organization named Ethiopia Reads. Thanks to LEPAC for supporting this project.
(http://www.ethiopiareads.org/home ) One of their projects is a Horse Powered library described in this Newsletter. "The facilitators travel via horse, donkey or motorbike upwards of 12 miles to small villages with little to no access to educational materials."
