Family Literacy Day
by Joe Grewal - Friday, 24 January 2014, 2:00 PM

Today we celebrated Family Literacy Day at Lochside Elementary. We had a number of guests including Trustee Helen Parker, Board Chair Wayne Hunter, Toby Joseph from the Tsawout First Nations and retired principal Don Macdonald. Students read stories with their parents, grandparents and other adults for the first 25 minutes before meeting in the gym for an assembly. At the assembly Sergreant Ross was our mystery reader and Toby Joseph sang us a First Nations song. Three members of the Story Theatre Company attended our assembly to tell us an impromptu story. The Story Theatre members spent the rest of the day at Lochside Elementary telling stories and working with students to practice storytelling. It was a great way to celebrate the importance of literacy. Please ask your child (ren) for more details about the day.
