Hi, Lochside! Happy end of April! Please check out this week's updates/reminders below:

******************

1) *Attention all families who park along Rithetwood Drive*

Attention all families who park along Rithetwood Drive:

Please ensure that when walking to and from school you are using the sidewalk.

There has been a recent concern from a neighbour that many families are walking in the middle the road making it very challenging to drive/pass through. Thank you for your attention to this matter. We are appreciative to our local neighbours for allowing us to park along this road and want to maintain good relations.

2) *This Tuesday: April 30*  The Blanket Exercise (No Cost)

Here's the full, updated information for The Blanket Exercise:

**********************

We will be hosting the Blanket Exercise at Lochside on Tuesday, April 30th from 6:30-8:30pm in the school gym.

Due to the sensitive content shared in this exercise, only adults are invited to participate. Child Minding is available upon request. Some things to note regarding map etiquette:

  • Shoes are not permitted on the map. The floor does get cold, socks are recommended

  • No food or drink allowed on the map

Please see below for a brief synopsis about the Blanket Exercise:

A Learning Activity Exploring the Relationship Between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Peoples

This is an experiential activity that explores the 500-year relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Participants are guided through a narrative and experiential visual of many of the policies and events that have shaped Canada in the context of the treatment of the Indigenous People of this land. Learners will experience a sense of the loss of land, a way of life, and the impacts that many Indigenous People deal with to this day.

This participatory workshop will help participants understand how colonization of the land we now know as British Columbia and Canada has impacted the people who lived here long before settlers arrived. Through this exercise participants will explore the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada, how this relationship has been damaged over the years, and how they can work toward reconciliation. This version of the Blanket Exercise has been developed in partnership with the BC Teachers’ Federation, in order to make this resource available in BC schools.

We will need to cap this activity at 35 participants    Sign Up for the Blanket Exercise

4)  *Invite May 15* Grade 5 parents...Lochside and Prospect Lake

Hi there,

The ROMS PAC would like to invite parents of Grade 5 students who will be making their way to ROMS next year, to our May 15th PAC meeting at 7pm in the ROMS Learning Commons.

This meeting is a great chance for incoming parents to meet the ROMS PAC and our Administrators and hopefully look ahead to the new school year and see if they might have an interest in being a part of the ROMS PAC for the 2024/25 school year.

Our May meeting is also our AGM which we will vote in our Executive.  We currently have a vacancy for next year in the role of Secretary.

If you wouldn't mind sharing both our May PAC invite to your Grade 5 families as well as our open Secretary position (or if anyone is interested in another area we certainly wouldn't turn them away!!!) we would be really appreciative.

Please feel free to pass on my name and contact info to anyone if they have questions about our PAC.

Thank you so much

Hope to see you on the 15th of May!!

Smiles

Tiffany
