Dear Lochside families,
There are many updates to share this week, so please read on:
Staff Appreciation
The Staff Appreciation Potluck Luncheon is happening next week on Thursday, May 4! This is a great way for parents to show their appreciation for the staff that work so hard at Lochside, by providing a dish for the lunch, or volunteering to assist at the lunch. We still need quite a few for both, so please use the sign up genius form links below to let us know how you will be able to contribute. Any questions, please contact Carolyn Phillips.
Help is also still needed for last minute preparations for Staff Appreciation week. Meetings will be held on the gym stage at 1:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week for anyone able to help out.
Staff appreciation pages were sent out last week in back packs. Students are asked to fill them out, colour them and return to the office.
BOKS
BOKS (Build Our Kids’ Success) continues this Tuesday! Drop off your child early, twice a week, for a supervised fun and active start! From April 18th – June 16th, meet us at 8 am on Tuesdays and Fridays in the back field for some active fun. Or come to the gym on rainy mornings with your indoor shoes. We are excited to announce that we will have two Silver Medalists from Rio, the rowing double Lindsay Jennerich and Patricia Obee attending on April 25th with their medals. We hope to see you there!
Cross Country
Lochside is hosting the final cross country meet of the season on Wednesday, May 3rd. The races are being held at Centennial Park on Wallace Drive in Saanichton.
The coaches are hoping to recruit 10 parent volunteers to help out at the meet. Please contact Sherisse Norris at if you are able to volunteer.
District Budget Presentation
On April 12, there was a district budget presentation at the School Communities Budget Meeting. The presentation outlined some of the budget pressures the district is facing and some options to reduce the budget pressure. Parents are invited to view the presentation here and are encouraged to share their thoughts or comments with the district.
Smile Card Fundraising
Each year we fundraise through the use of Thrifty Foods Smile cards. This fundraiser has proven to be very successful in the past and monies raised have been used for items such as technology, that directly benefit students. This year, we are quite far off from our fundraising goal, which will have an impact on this year’s and next year’s fundraiser amount. Please consider loading your Smile Card and using it when you grocery shop to support Lochside.
Scholastic Book Fair
The ½ Price Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Lochside! This is an exciting event, as all schools in our District will be invited to join us and all proceeds will benefit Lochside’s Learning Commons. The Fair will be held in Lochside’s gymnasium and will be open the following dates and times:
May 11th - 11:15 - 12:15 and 2:30 - 5:00;
May 12th - 8:15 - 9:15, 11:15 - 12:15 and 2:30 - 5:00;
May 15th - 8:15 - 9:15, 11:15 - 12:15 and 2:30 - 5:00; and
May 16th - 8:15 - 9:15, 11:15 - 12:15 and 2:30 - 5:00
Due to the size of this event, we will be needing more help to make it run smoothly. Please sign up for a shift (or more) at the following link.
