We were lucky enough to get to have a respresentative from the Greater Victoria Public Library come and visit all Lochside classes today to talk about their amazing summer reading program. All you need to do is stop by any GV Public Library and pick up a reading record sheet, record your reading (a little bit every day) and you can go in and show them your progress to win a prize each week of summer!
They have many other cool things happening at the Library over the summer (including a buddy read program where teens volunteer to read with youngsters for a week!).
Check out their programs here: https://gvpl.ca/programs-events
Beckwith Park was a blast today! The students didn't even let our cloudy weather stop them from enjoying the water park! A big thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped to add to the fun. And a big pat on the back to the students, who were incredibly respectful and well behaved. Too bad we can't field trip to the park every week!!

It’s Library/ Learning Commons inventory time! Help our library out by returning all overdue library items and textbooks. Look under your bed and in the closet and clean out your desk or locker. We need these items returned before June 16!
Would you, please return library items and textbooks so the library can do an accurate inventory. If you have items that you are still using or want to keep for next year, talk to Mary Ann.
Our beautiful chicks have hatched, grown, and flown the coop back to their Saltspring Island farm, where we are sure they are happily playing with new friends in the sun!
Last week we explored Outerbridge Park next door, had a question and answer period with special guest Farmer Dave, and planted garlic in the garden (and noticed that our magic beans are starting to poke through!).
We are all looking forward to warmer weather, and will be seizing the opportunity to spend more time learning in nature.
Another couple of very fun and successful weeks in school! The students did a lovely job baking with Mrs. B earlier this week, and were fantastic detectives during our "What's in the Egg" activity with Ms. Jones today; the clues were very creative and clearly well thought out, a big thank you to everyone who helped make that happen! We were lucky enough to get to see a performance from the Royal Oak Middle School band this afternoon. See the photo below of our art this week, which is also hung up in the hallway leading to the sunspace.
Happy long Easter weekend!

After two weeks away, we have hit the ground running back at Lochside! Thank you to everyone for helping make Dino Day a huge success! There were many opportunities for learning, creation, and exploration.
We will continue on with our Social Studies unit on Canada this month, as well as continue to communicate with our Whitehorse friends, writing letters and drawing pictures for them.
Looking forward to a wonderful spring semester!
It is Kindness Month at Lochside! Your student may have told you about our Assembly last week, where the teachers dressed up as ants and taught us that "team-work makes the dream work!" Today our class created mini-posters that had free positive thoughts attached for the taking. As decided by the...Read the rest of this topic
Our trail walks continue to be a highlight of our week! Especially now that the weather is warming and we get to feel the sun on our faces. A big thank you to the parent volunteers that continue to allow this to happen each Thursday morning.
If the mood strikes you any Thursday morning, feel free to just show up! The more the merrier.
